BBC Wildlife has teamed up with Carna Conservation Initiative to offer our readers the chance to win a stay on the secluded island of Carna.

The remote island of Carna is a haven for wildlife such as otters.

The isle of Carna is an amazing place to escape with family, friends or even alone to experience an abundance of native wildlife in peace and seclusion.

There are many Scottish islands, but none quite like Carna. This historic, private, 2.4km2 gem sits surrounded by the rich coastal waters of Loch Sunart, close to the Ardnamurchan peninsula, on the west coast of Scotland.

There are only three houses on this calm isle, no roads or traffic, no telephones, no TV or internet vying for your attention, and very few people. It is the perfect place to escape the pressures of modern life and truly switch off.

Take your own boat out to search for harbour seals along the coastline.

Carna hosts a mosaic of different habitats, including orchid-filled wildflower meadows, heather moorland and oak woodland.

Visitors can see otters, white-tailed and golden eagles, red and roe deer, bottlenose dolphins, harbour porpoises and rare black honeybees.

During your three-night stay warden of Carna and director of Carna Conservation Initiative (CCI) Andy Jackson will lead a guided wildlife tour of this island and its surrounding waters.

This fantastic holiday includes:

  • Three night stay in Carna Cottage (self-catered)
  • The chance to encounter a variety of aquatic and terrestrial species
  • Use of a self-drive boat with training to explore the island
  • Full tank of fuel for boat
  • Linen, towels and logs for fire
  • Starter pack (household goods such as matches)
  • A guided wildlife tour of the island and Loch Sunart

Not included: meals (self-catering cottage); travel insurance; transport to and from the joining point at Laga Bay, PH36 4JW; tips and gratuities

This peaceful cottage and private pontoon could be yours for three days. Answer the competition question correctly for a chance to win.

Your accommodation:

Carna Cottage has been modernised over the years to provide a warm, comfortable and fully equipped self-catering stay overlooking a private pontoon and tranquil shoreline.

The conservatory provides a wonderful and unique viewing platform from which to watch the island’s abundant wildlife. Otters feed and fish on and around the pontoon each day while harbour seals swim past as they head through Caol Chàrna narrows.

Guests can see white-tailed and golden eagles perching on a reef and use a boat that is moored on the pontoon in front of the cottage to explore the island at their leisure.
