Heathrow Roostings by Daniel Trim was the overall winner of the British Wildlife Photography Awards 2017

Now in its ninth year, the British Wildlife Photography Awards recognises the incredible talents of photographers working in the UK. The competition highlights the great diversity and wealth of the country’s wildlife and raises awareness of our natural habitats.

By entering the contest you will have a chance to win £5000 and benefit from national publicity. The prize fund includes products from lead sponsor Canon.

Winners of the 15 categories and highly commended entrants will have their images showcased in a touring exhibition and stunning photo book. They will also be invited to an awards ceremony in London.

We are delighted to announce that BBC Wildlife Magazine is once again sponsoring the ‘Animal Portraits’ category.

BBC Wildlife Magazine editor, Sheena Harvey, says: “This competition is a great opportunity for nature photographers of all levels who have captured an image of a wild animal that they are particularly pleased with, to impress the judging panel with their skill. I’m really looking forward to seeing the entries.”

The 15 separate categories include ‘Animal Behaviour’, ‘Urban Wildlife’, ‘Habitat’, ‘Botanical Britain’, ‘Wild Woods’, ‘Close to Nature’, ‘Marine Life’, ‘British Seasons’ and a special ‘Wildlife in HD Video’ award. There are also two junior categories that are free to enter for young people.
